Movie Spotlight: 35 Shots of Rum

David Parkinson from the magazine Empire has given the movie "35 Shots of Rum" 5 out of 5 stars. May be something to check out. His review is below.

Plot
The family dynamic between a father and daughter is altered with the arrival of another in her life.

Review
Harking to Ozu's genius for capturing the rythyms of the everyday, Claire Denis celebrates the often-overlooked traits of trust, acceptance and love in this exquisite domestic drama. Indeed, taciturn widower Alex Descas and student daughter Mati Diop are so attuned that they rarely need to speak to communicate and their relationships with tenement neighbours prove just as intuitive. It's not all harmony - both train driver Descas and cabby Nicole Dogue have their secrets, while Gregoire Colin struggles to express his feelings for Diop, who isn't quite sure where her life is heading. With Agnes Godard's subtle imagery making the mundane seem reassuring, this has a quiet confidence to match its compassion.

Verdict
Superbly played and realised, this stays with you.

  1. I am going to check this out. It looks good. Can't suck as much as the other movies that are out this year.
